Qardo municipality has made huge strides in rehabilitating Qardo stadium with the aim of reducing the risk of youth being engaged in these criminal activities.
Stability has been absent, unemployment endemic and education limited in Somalia. This has resulted in many young people being lured into criminal activities such as terrorism and petty crimes. Qardo municipality, with the support of the UN Joint Programme on Local Governance and Decentralized Service Delivery (JPLG)has made huge strides in rehabilitating Qardo stadium with the aim of reducing the risk of youth being engaged in these criminal activities.
The rehabilitation has led to a greater social cohesion, particular among the youth and elderly in addition to the creation of a space for healthy and positive recreation.
Qardo stadium was also rehabilitated because the main playing ground in the district had become very old. JPLG rehabilitated the stadium, constructed two changing rooms, one latrine, an entrance door and purchased sports equipment.
The rehabilitation of Qardo stadium created 2257 worker days and 4,500 beneficiaries.
